Skywave hits 100 transmitter milestone; unveils Splash Page advertising
HONOLULU - Skywave Broadband, the state's fastest growing Wireless Broadband Provider, is proud to announce it has surpassed 100 transmitters deployed, a significant milestone in its WiFi coverage plans. As the Company's coverage has started to reach a critical mass, strategic advertising opportunities on its Splash Page portal (where new users register and existing users securely sign-in) have also emerged.
Skywave's WiFi coverage now extends throughout Waikiki, downtown Bishop Street, Aloha Tower, Restaurant Row, Ward Center, Manoa, Kailua town, and Hawaiia Kai. Additionally, WiFi locations at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Hawaii stores now number 11, and can be found in and around Ala Moana shopping center, Pearl City, Ewa Beach, Makakilo, Kailua-Kona, and Waipouli, Kauai. Visitors can register for short term plans ranging from 4-hours to 1-month, while locals can sign up for 4-month and 1-year plans, at $25.00 and $20.00 per month respectively for unlimited access. Additionally, by visiting many of our retail locations, like all Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Hawaii locations, if a user purchases a beverage or food item, a complimentary 1-hour pass is provided upon request.
Coverage in Waikiki represents approximately 70% of Skywave's current transmitters, and as more and more visitors arrive with WiFi-enabled devices, Skywave stands poised to capitalize on this emerging opportunity. "Waikiki has been a core focus to date," said Skywave President & CEO, Josh Beil. "We still have some additional expansion in Waikiki planned to fill in a few holes, but we believe we are leading the pack of private companies making 'Wireless Waikiki' a reality".
With over a hundred transmitters now in service, Skywave's Splash Page portal is serving nearly one million pages per month. The Company's proprietary WiFi management platform enables location-specific advertising and content, so messages and promotions can be highly targeted. Skywave is proud to also announce that companies such as Dell Computers and Bishop & Co. have decided to experiment with this new advertising medium, with airline, retailer, and timeshare firms likely to follow suit shortly.
"We see advertising and non-subscription based revenues as core to Skywave's future success and key elements of a successful WiFi 2.0 strategy," Beil continues. In addition to location-based advertising campaigns, another such example of non-subscription based revenue would the opportunity for organizations to customize survey questions to ask WiFi users, both in Waikiki and throughout Hawaii, thereby allowing Skywave to provide primary research capabilities for those interested in the WiFi-user demographic.
Skywave's WiFi expansion plans are far from complete. By continuing to leverage strategic relationships with the City of Honolulu, the Shidler Group, Kaneohe Ranch, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Hawaii, and other partners, Skywave's next milestone will be 250 transmitters, then 500 - numbers the Company is looking to achieve by end of 2008.
